Software Engineer - Small Business Technologies

H&R Block is a company that has led the tax industry for over 70 years and is evolving through digital innovation. They are seeking a Software Engineer to modernize their software architecture by designing, developing, and maintaining software components that support their business applications.

Responsibilities:

• Leverage AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering practices to improve productivity, quality, testing, and documentation
• Participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis of production issues while contributing to long-term reliability improvements
• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks and improve engineering workflows
• Take ownership of assigned features from design through deployment, monitoring, and support

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience
• 3 years minimum related work experience with the following:
• React / TypeScript
• Node.js
• Python
• AWS or Azure (Cloud Exposure)
• Exposure to REST APIs and event-driven architectures
• GitHub Actions and CI/CD tooling
• Infrastructure as Code
• Observability and Monitoring Platforms (Datadog preferred)
• AI-assisted software development tools and engineering automation platforms
• Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and drive outcomes in ambiguous environments
• Leveraging AI-assisted development tools and agentic engineering workflows to improve productivity, testing, code quality, and documentation
