Summary

The City of Norfolk's Department of Recreation, Community Wellness/Recreation Programs is seeking a Recreation Activity Instructor to assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of visual arts classes and programming for youth, teens, adults, and seniors.

Examples of duties

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

• Teaches various levels of visual arts classes
• Provide classroom management by scheduling, monitoring students, compiling curriculums, redirecting when needed and providing feedback to students. 
• Interacts with citizens by providing excellent customer service, responding to inquiries about class, organizing and leading classes to contribute to the growth and development of youth, teens, adults, and seniors.
• Market recreation programs by distributing flyers and announcements to the participants. 
• Plans, implements, and evaluates recreational classes as well as aids colleagues when needed.
• Must have good customer skills.

Qualifications

Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.

Must have education &/or experience in Art, Art Education, or any closely related field of study.

Must have experience and/or education in Pottery on the Wheel

Beginner/intermediate/advanced level for adult instruction

At least one year of instructional experience, preferred

Valid Driver's License required

CPR/First Aid Certification within six months of employment.

Work Location:  Titustown Community Center, 7545 Diven Street, Norfolk, VA 23505

Work Hours: Monday to Sunday; 6:00 a.m. - 12:00 a.m.; not to exceed 30 hours per week; flexible hours will apply including weekends, holidays, and special events.
