Fullstack Software Engineer

Recruiting from Scratch is representing a well-established education technology company building digital curriculum, assessment, and instructional products. The Fullstack Software Engineer will join a remote Literacy Assessments team responsible for developing features that help teachers evaluate student reading ability and improve learning outcomes.

Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain full-stack features for digital literacy assessment products
• Develop scalable frontend and backend systems using Python, JavaScript, and modern web technologies
• Create tools that help educators assess reading ability and translate results into actionable recommendations
• Improve reporting experiences for teachers and administrators reviewing student performance
• Design and optimize APIs for speed, reliability, and ease of use across instructional products
• Write automated tests and supporting tooling to improve software quality and release confidence
• Review code and contribute to engineering standards across the team
• Partner with DevOps engineers to improve deployment workflows, monitoring, and cloud infrastructure
• Proactively test and monitor production systems to ensure reliable performance in real classroom environments
• Collaborate across product, design, data science, and education teams from early discovery through production release

Requirements:

• 2–6 years of professional software engineering experience
• Hands-on experience building production software with Python and JavaScript
• Strong full-stack development skills across modern frontend and backend technologies
• Experience working with relational or modern cloud-based databases
• Understanding of software architecture, testing, debugging, and maintainable code design
• Ability to work effectively within complex systems and established codebases
• Strong problem-solving skills and comfort navigating technical ambiguity
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, equivalent technical education, or comparable practical experience
• Interest in building accessible, equitable products for students and educators
• Experience designing or integrating RESTful and GraphQL APIs
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Snowflake, or similar data platforms
• Experience with AWS services, including AppSync and Lambda
• Familiarity with Terraform, Docker, Datadog, or related infrastructure and observability tools
• Experience writing automated tests using Jest, WebdriverIO, or similar frameworks
• Background building education technology, assessment, or learning products
• Experience collaborating with DevOps or platform engineering teams
• Understanding of accessibility and reliability requirements for classroom software
