Analyst, Business Intelligence - Stores & Services

Petco is a leading company in pet supplies and services, dedicated to improving the lives of pets and their owners. In this role, you will develop intuitive dashboards and reports to aid business decision-making by translating complex datasets into clear visual narratives for retail operations.

Responsibilities:

• Develop visually compelling, user-friendly, and high-performance dashboards
• Apply clean visualization and design principles to ensure reporting layouts are intuitive, clear, and optimized for fast business decision-making
• Write efficient SQL queries to profile, extract, filter, and structure raw data from cloud databases for seamless dashboard integration
• Embed rigorous quality check standards into development workflows, ensuring high data accuracy and building total user trust in business reporting
• Troubleshoot and resolve basic performance issues in dashboards to guarantee a seamless, fast, and reliable end user experience
• Maintain and optimize scheduled reporting cadences
• Help streamline delivery processes using built-in BI tool scheduling or spreadsheet-based functions
• Work to modernize legacy Excel spreadsheets or manual reporting processes, transitioning them into more sustainable, automated, or interactive dashboard solutions
• Support senior leadership and business stakeholders by conducting objective, data-driven analyses to answer key business questions
• Assist in responding to high-priority inquiries by compiling accurate findings into clear, well-structured briefs and summary reports
• Translate data findings into clear, digestible summaries
• Present trends and dashboard configurations to cross-functional stakeholders across the business
• Collaborate with broader Analytics and Data Science teams to incorporate predictive metrics and model outputs into core operational dashboards

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, or a related quantitative/business field
• 1–2+ years of hands-on experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, or a similar data-driven role
• Prior experience or a strong interest in retail operations, e-commerce, and key retail performance metrics
• Hands-on development experience or strong familiarity with modern BI tools (Looker and MicroStrategy preferred)
• Proficiency in SQL for data extraction, querying, profiling, and backend validation
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets for rapid data modeling and analysis
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain technical layouts to non-technical stakeholders and craft clear, executive-ready performance summaries
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver quality work in a fast-paced retail environment
• A genuine passion for exploring data, asking probing questions, and discovering underlying retail trends
• Proficiency in Power BI or Tableau as alternatives to Looker and MicroStrategy
• Familiarity with scripting languages (such as Python, JavaScript/Apps Script, or VBA) for task automation
