Software Engineer

Sera Systems is transforming how specialty contractors run their businesses with their cloud-based platform. They are seeking a Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain applications that power their platform, collaborating closely with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable, production-ready software that supports our customers and business goals
• Build and enhance features using Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, TypeScript, and React
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and fellow Engineers to translate business requirements into thoughtful technical solutions
• Participate in architecture discussions and contribute ideas that improve scalability, performance, and maintainability
• Write automated tests and participate in code reviews to ensure high-quality, reliable software
• Troubleshoot production issues, resolve bugs, and proactively address technical debt
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes, and platform reliability
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, estimation, and backlog refinement
• Create and maintain technical documentation to support long-term development and knowledge sharing
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools, including GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and Claude Code, to improve productivity while maintaining high standards for quality and security
• Participate in an on-call rotation and support incident response when needed

Requirements:

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Experience developing web applications using Ruby on Rails
• Strong proficiency with JavaScript or TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks such as React
• Experience working with RESTful APIs and relational databases
• Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and modern CI/CD practices
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• A growth mindset with a passion for continuous learning and improving engineering practices
• Experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform
• Familiarity with GraphQL
• Experience using GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD tools
• Experience with testing frameworks such as Cypress, RSpec, Jest, or Selenium
• Exposure to monitoring and observability platforms such as Datadog, New Relic, or Sentry
