Mechanical Engineer

X4 Engineering is a leading engineering and design firm seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with strong Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) experience. This role will focus on developing CFD models for data center environments, optimizing cooling systems, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities:

• Develop CFD models (air and liquid) for data center white space and exterior infrastructure
• Perform airflow, heat transfer, and pressure distribution analysis to optimize cooling performance
• Evaluate thermal behavior, equipment layouts, containment strategies, and environmental conditions
• Analyze factors such as wind loading, heat island effects, and outdoor air intake performance
• Interpret simulation results and provide design recommendations
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and architectural design teams
• Prepare technical reports and present findings to internal and external stakeholders
• Support optimization of cooling systems, equipment placement, and high-density computing environments
• Maintain and improve CFD libraries, equipment models, and simulation templates
• Ensure designs align with ASHRAE TC 9.9 and industry data center standards

Requirements:

• Mechanical Engineering background with experience in CFD modeling
• Experience with data center cooling systems and thermal optimization
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and HVAC principles
• Experience modeling systems such as: CRAH/CRAC units, Chillers and cooling towers, CDUs and liquid cooling systems, Containment solutions, Emergency generators and supporting infrastructure
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and facility layouts
• Strong communication skills and ability to present technical findings
• EIT or PE license
• Experience supporting mission-critical or high-density data center environments
