Background

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Country Office in Angola implements its Country Programme Document (CPD) 2024–2028 in support of the Government of Angola’s National Development Plan (PDN 2023–2027) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Through an integrated and collaborative approach, UNDP Angola works across areas including inclusive economic growth, governance, innovation and digital transformation, climate resilience, youth empowerment, and sustainable development.

The Communications Unit supports the visibility and public outreach of UNDP Angola by promoting awareness of the organization’s mandate, programmes, partnerships, and impact in the country. The Unit contributes to strategic communications, digital engagement, storytelling, advocacy initiatives, and the production of communication materials supporting UNDP’s work in Angola.

UNDP internship programme offers graduate and undergraduate-level students the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UNDP's work with the objective of deepening their knowledge and understanding of UNDP’s goals, principles, and activities. It is designed to complement a variety of studies with practical professional experience in various areas.

The purpose of this internship is to provide the selected intern with structured learning and practical exposure to implementation of communication, visibility, and digital engagement activities of UNDP Angola. while gaining first‑hand experience of the day‑to‑day working environment of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The internship is designed as a learning opportunity to complement the intern’s academic or early professional training through supervised, hands‑on involvement in UNDP’s program or operational work. The internship is not intended to replace staff functions, nor does it constitute an employment relationship or imply any expectation of future employment with UNDP. Internally at UNDP, the intern will contribute to content development, multimedia production, social media management, event coverage, and documentation of UNDP initiatives, while supporting effective and engaging communication of UNDP’s work and impact in Angola.

Under the overall guidance of the UNV Communications & Advocacy Specialist, the Communications and Multimedia Intern will support communication, multimedia, and digital engagement activities of the Country Office, contributing to content development, storytelling, and visibility initiatives across UNDP Angola’s programmes and partnerships.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Intern will learn and contribute to communication support activities, with a focus on gaining exposure to the following areas:

1.    Communications and Content Development
•    Gain hand-on experience in drafting and editing communication materials, including website articles, social media content, newsletters, speeches, press materials, briefing notes, captions, talking points, and other visibility materials in Portuguese and English.
•    Learn how to document projects, events, field missions, and programme activities through written stories, interviews, testimonials, and multimedia content.
•    Observe and contribute to the preparation of communication and advocacy materials highlighting UNDP’s programmes, partnerships, impact, and commitment to gender equality, inclusion, and sustainable development in Angola.
•    Participate in the research and information gathering process to support communication campaigns, storytelling, and visibility initiatives.
•    Practice proofreading and translation of communication materials in Portuguese and English.

2.    Digital and Multimedia Support
•    Develop skills in the creation of digital communication materials, including graphics, presentations, infographics, reels, and short videos.
•    Gain exposure to photography, video recording, and basic video editing for communication campaigns, events, and outreach activities.
•    Assist in organizing and maintaining multimedia archives, including photos, videos, publications, and branding materials.
•    Support management of UNDP Angola’s digital platforms, including website and social media channels.
•    Support the development of inclusive and gender-sensitive communication and multimedia content aligned with UNDP values.
•    Contribute creative ideas and youth-oriented approaches to digital engagement and storytelling, with guidance on inclusive and gender-sensitive communication

3.    Events and Coordination Support
•    Participate in event coverage, including photography, videography, and post-event documentation.
•    Support the organization and visibility of events, campaigns, workshops, and outreach activities.
•    Collaborate with programme teams and external partners where required to support communication activities.
•    Undertake supervised communication related tasks, with opportunities to receive feedback and strengthen professional skills.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Enrolled student of a degree programme or completed 4 years of full-time studies at a university in the field of Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Multimedia, Graphic Design, Marketing, Digital Media, International Relations, Social Sciences, or a related field.

Experience:

No professional experience required.
Strong writing and communication skills in Portuguese and English are required.
Demonstrated interest in communications, digital media, storytelling, social media management, multimedia production, or design.
Basic knowledge of graphic design, photography, video editing, and digital communication tools is desirable.
Familiarity with tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, or similar platforms is an asset.
Well-versed in Microsoft Office applications.
Demonstrated sensitivity and commitment to diversity, gender equality, and inclusive communication principles.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment while developing the ability to manage multiple tasks carefully and with attention to detail.

Eligibility for internships in UNDP

Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.
Only nationals will be considered for this internship program.

Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP.
Interns receive a monthly stipend paid in local currency.
