Senior Electrical Engineer – Data Center Projects

Haag, a Salas O’Brien Company, is an employee-owned engineering and professional services firm providing integrated engineering and consulting services across industries including data centers and other mission-critical facilities. The Senior Electrical Engineer will develop and deliver electrical designs for large-scale data centers, focusing on power distribution, backup power, grounding, and system reliability from early design through construction support. The role also includes technical coordination, design reviews, system studies, and support for junior staff and construction activities.

Responsibilities:

• Develop electrical system designs including MV/LV distribution, UPS, standby generators, grounding, lighting, and monitoring systems
• Perform load flow, short circuit, and arc flash studies using SKM, ETAP, or EasyPower
• Review drawings, calculations, and vendor documentation for accuracy and compliance
• Support BIM/VDC teams in the modeling and coordination of electrical systems
• Ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE, NFPA, and client-specific standards
• Assist with QA/QC reviews and internal design checks
• Provide construction-phase support including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and supporting field activities
• Participate in design coordination meetings with clients, consultants, and internal teams

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
• 10+ years of electrical engineering experience, with strong background in utility, industrial, or mission-critical facilities (data centers, BESS, substations, power plants)
• Hands-on expertise in MV/LV power distribution, emergency/backup power, protective relaying, and redundancy strategies
• Proficiency with SKM, ETAP, or similar tools for system analysis; AutoCAD and Revit familiarity preferred
• Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE, NFPA, and utility interconnection requirements
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required (multi-state licensure a plus)
• Strong communication and organizational skills; able to work effectively in collaborative and remote environments
• Authorized to work in the United States
• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
• Additional certifications (LEED AP, PMP, etc.) are a plus
