AI Biologist - Metagenomics

Latch is building intelligent, high-performance agents for biological data analysis, empowering over 5,000 scientists across more than 150 research and development labs. The AI Biologist will help evaluate AI agents on complex metagenomics datasets by developing ground-truth benchmark datasets and applying expertise in metagenomic analysis, taxonomic classification, and functional annotation.

Responsibilities:

• You will contribute to our technical approach for evaluating how AI agents reason through complex metagenomics datasets
• Working with software engineers and computational biologists, you'll build ground-truth benchmark datasets—drawn from real published microbial community studies—that rigorously test whether agents can perform the critical analytical decision-making steps that expert bioinformaticians execute
• Your hands-on expertise in 16S amplicon and shotgun metagenomics analysis, taxonomic classification, and functional annotation will define how we measure agent capability in computational microbiology
