Principal Software Development Engineer

Envestnet is an adaptive WealthTech company redefining wealth management through comprehensive technology, actionable insights, and industry-leading support. The Principal Software Development Engineer will define technical strategy, lead high-impact initiatives, and architect scalable, secure cloud platforms for wealth management and trading solutions. The role also drives enterprise engineering practices, platform evolution, AI-enabled development, and cross-functional technical leadership.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for building scalable, secure platforms in support of Envestnet business operations, including wealth management, financial data aggregation and advisor-driven technology solutions. Works across cloud-based architectures, integrating complex data sources and APIs to deliver reliable, high-performance systems. Collaborates with product managers, data scientists and compliance stakeholders to meet both business and regulatory requirements
• Defines and drives long-term technical strategy and architecture across multiple systems
• Leads large-scale, high-impact initiatives that align with business objectives
• Solves highly complex, ambiguous technical challenges with innovative solutions
• Influences engineering standards, policies, and best practices across the organization
• Acts as a key advisor to senior leadership on technology decisions
• Mentors senior engineers and develop future technical leaders
• Evaluates and adopts new technologies to drive innovation and competitive advantage
• Ensures system scalability, reliability, and performance at enterprise scale
• Leads cross-functional initiatives involving engineering, product, and business teams
• Designs and improves enterprise-grade CI/CD frameworks, deployment strategies, and automation pipelines
• Partners with DevOps/SRE to define infrastructure patterns (scalability, observability, resilience)
• Shapes and advances scalable platform capabilities, including cloud technologies, reusable services, APIs, and internal developer platforms that support engineering teams across the organization
• Champions the adoption of AI-enabled engineering capabilities, including modular AI components and agentic coding workflows, to accelerate delivery velocity, improve software quality, and enhance developer productivity
• Provides enterprise-wide technical leadership to drive modern engineering practices and platform evolution at scale

Requirements:

• Candidates should demonstrate the relevant experience, skills, and capabilities needed to successfully perform in the role. Relevant experience may be gained through current responsibilities, prior roles, project work, leadership opportunities, or other comparable experiences
• Extensive experience defining architecture for scalable, reliable, high-performing enterprise systems and large-scale infrastructure initiatives
• Background in platform engineering, cloud platforms, modern deployment models, reusable services, APIs, and internal developer or product platforms
• Experience influencing engineering standards, technical policies, best practices, architecture governance, and organization-wide technology decisions
• Experience evaluating and adopting emerging technologies to improve scalability, reliability, performance, productivity, and competitive advantage
• Experience with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Redis, and ElastiCache
• Experience with AWS services including any of the following - EC2, S3, ELB, ASG, API Gateway, Lambda, RDS, EKS, CloudWatch, SQS
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Kafka, CloudFormation, CDK, Terraform, DevOps practices, automation, agile delivery, Scrum, and test-driven development
• Experience productizing AI capabilities into reusable services, APIs, and internal platforms, including standardized AI pipelines for prompting, retrieval, reasoning, validation, and enterprise reuse
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field
• Technical background with .NET, C#
• Knowledge of modular AI components, including agents, tools, evaluators, and composable AI patterns across products
• Experience mentoring senior engineers, developing future technical leaders, and championing agentic coding workflows to accelerate delivery and improve quality throughout the SDLC
• Proven ability to solve complex and ambiguous technical challenges and advise senior leadership on technical trade-offs
