Software Engineer II

Microsoft is a technology company focused on empowering people and organizations through innovation. The Software Engineer II - Azure Storage role involves building and optimizing hyperscale distributed storage systems, including metadata services and data storage across servers with Data Processing Units. The engineer will develop code, improve performance, reliability, availability, security, observability, and cost efficiency, and participate in on-call operations.

Responsibilities:

• Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features
• Play a crucial role in product quality by overseeing performance measurements & analysis of storage services at different conditions
• Take an active role and partner with peer teams and external partners to ensure new storage features meet target availability, security, and reliability goals, with an emphasis on quality upstream
• Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight
• Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable
• Contributes to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation
• Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on-call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and gains approval to restore system/product/service for simple problems
• Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years  technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++,  or Java
  • OR equivalent experience
• 1+ year(s) of experience in software engineering practices, coding and solid foundation in data structures and algorithms, with problem solving, debugging and analytical skills
• 1+ year(s) of proficiency in Storage, File-Systems, Distributed Systems, Operating Systems, Networking, or Applications at scale
• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience
• 1+ year(s) proficiency in building and operating services at scale
