Senior Backend Software Engineer, Robot Fleet Orchestration

Mytra is creating a robotics and distributed software platform to transform material movement and storage in the supply chain industry. The Senior Backend Software Engineer will build backend orchestration software that coordinates robot fleets, manages planning and task execution, maintains system state, and integrates warehouse workflows and WMS data. The role also involves developing APIs, data models, recovery workflows, observability, and reliable production capabilities in collaboration with software, robotics, product, and customer-facing teams.

Responsibilities:

• Build backend software that coordinates a live fleet of bots, including planning collision-free and time-feasible routes across a shared operating space
• Develop systems for assigning tasks to bots based on fleet state, task dependencies, timing constraints, and operational priorities
• Implement planning logic for storage and retrieval workflows, including where payloads should be stored and what moves are required to access blocked or buried payloads
• Support continuous replanning as work is added, canceled, reprioritized, or disrupted, while helping keep the fleet operating efficiently
• Maintain accurate system state across Mytra’s digital model and the physical warehouse environment
• Build recovery workflows for situations where the physical system and software state diverge, including blocked areas, maintenance zones, network drops, spills, or other unexpected events
• Improve observability into planning cycles, task execution, and system behavior so engineers can debug issues and improve performance over time
• Design and maintain backend services, APIs, and data models that support orchestration, planning, task execution, and fleet operations
• Integrate customer warehouse workflows and WMS data into Mytra’s system to support efficient deployment and operation of the platform
• Collaborate with software, robotics, product, and customer-facing teams to deliver reliable orchestration capabilities in production

Requirements:

• 5+ years of production software engineering experience
• Experience building and shipping production software that solves search, routing, scheduling, planning, or optimization problems
• Familiarity with algorithmic problem spaces such as multi-agent path finding, vehicle routing, constraint solving, graph search, or similar
• Experience designing and maintaining production data models or schemas, including making changes safely as systems evolve
• Hands-on experience with relational databases, especially SQL or Postgres
• Experience designing, building, and supporting APIs used by other services, systems, or teams
• Ability to make practical system design decisions and understand the tradeoffs involved
• Strong ability to work through ambiguity, identify the right questions to ask, and move problems forward independently
• Product and technical judgment, with the ability to contribute ideas about what should be built while executing on current team priorities
• Experience with warehouse automation or AMR fleet management
• Proficiency in Go
• Experience operating Postgres at scale
• Experience with NATS or other message-based/pub-sub systems
• Experience supporting systems where software issues can affect physical-world operations
