Sr Mechanical Engineer (SRM Analyst – Thermal Focus) (Remote option Available)

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems is a global leader in the design, engineering, and production of munitions, energetics, weapons, armaments, and missile subsystems. The company is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to perform thermal analysis of solid rocket motor components, develop and validate thermal protection models, evaluate materials, and collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams and customers.

Responsibilities:

• Applies engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment
• Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports
• Confers with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information
• Researches and analyzes customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications
• Specifies system components or directs modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications
• Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew
• Perform detailed thermal analysis of solid rocket motor components
• Size internal insulation, external thermal protection systems, and structural insulators
• Validate models with test data; develop predictive ablation and erosion models
• Define sub-scale tests for characterizing material properties of insulators and ablators
• Evaluate and recommend ablative materials and thermal protection system solutions for applications in solid rocket motors
• Create reports and presentations documenting analysis and other supporting work
• Present to peers and customers in design reviews

Requirements:

• Requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in own job discipline and basic knowledge of related job disciplines
• • Required education and experience: Associate's Degree and 5-7 years' experience
• • Discipline/Major: Engineering degree required
