Senior Instrumentation Valve Product Design Engineer

Fanitek Controls, Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Instrumentation Valve Product Design Engineer to support the design, validation, testing, and production release of industrial instrumentation valve products. The role involves designing pressure-containing valve components and sealing systems, creating and reviewing engineering documentation, collaborating with manufacturing and suppliers, and supporting products from prototype through final production release.

Responsibilities:

• Design and improve established instrumentation valve configurations
• Develop and review valve bodies, bonnets, stems, stem tips, seats, packing systems, glands, seals, handles, end connections, and other critical components
• Evaluate sealing geometry, packing arrangements, operating torque, wall thickness, internal clearances, component strength, leakage risk, deformation, galling, fatigue, wear, and manufacturability
• Select appropriate body, stem, seat, packing, gasket, and sealing materials based on pressure, temperature, corrosion resistance, fluid compatibility, and service conditions
• Establish or verify pressure-temperature ratings and required material or temperature derating
• Identify, interpret, and correctly apply applicable ASME, ASTM, API, MSS, ISO, NACE/ISO, customer, and other relevant engineering requirements
• Produce or review complete 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, bills of materials, dimensions, fits, tolerances, GD&T, surface finishes, and critical sealing dimensions
• Ensure designs are suitable for CNC machining, bar-stock manufacturing, forgings, castings, and other applicable production methods
• Work with manufacturing personnel and suppliers to resolve machining, tolerance, material, assembly, and quality issues
• Develop or review hydrostatic, pneumatic, seat-leakage, shell-leakage, operating-torque, cycle-life, and other applicable test requirements
• Evaluate test results, investigate leakage or manufacturing failures, recommend corrective actions, and support products through prototype, testing, pilot production, and final production release

Requirements:

• • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
• • Minimum 8 years of direct instrumentation valve product-design experience
• • Previous employment with an instrumentation-valve, instrument-manifold, small-bore valve, tube-fitting, or related fluid-system product manufacturer
• • Demonstrated experience personally designing pressure-containing valve components and sealing systems
• • Strong knowledge of instrumentation valve structures, materials, pressure-temperature ratings, machining, tolerances, assembly, and testing
• • Demonstrated ability to identify and correctly apply the engineering standards relevant to a particular valve product
• • Proficiency with SolidWorks, Creo, Autodesk Inventor, or another professional mechanical CAD platform
• • Strong knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and manufacturing processes
• • Ability to perform or review engineering calculations and make independent engineering decisions
• • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
• • Must reside in Canada or the United States and be legally able to provide contract engineering services from the country of residence
• • Experience designing multiple categories of instrumentation valves and manifolds
• • Experience taking valve products from initial specifications through design, prototype, testing, and production release
• • Experience with high-pressure or demanding-service instrumentation valves
• • Knowledge of FEA, flow calculations, or other engineering-analysis tools
• • Experience resolving leakage, material, machining, tolerance, and field-performance problems
• • P.Eng. in Canada or PE in the United States is an asset but is not mandatory
• • Previous independent consulting or remote contract-engineering experience
