Web, Mail & Proxy Security Engineer

The Washington Institute for STEM, Entrepreneurship and Research (WISER) works at the intersection of quantum technology and cybersecurity. WISER is seeking a Web, Mail & Proxy Security Engineer to assess and strengthen web, email, proxy, DNS, and internet-facing infrastructure while identifying cryptographic dependencies and supporting quantum-safe security readiness.

Responsibilities:

• Assess web, mail, proxy, DNS, and internet-facing security infrastructure
• Evaluate WAF, CDN, reverse proxy, secure web gateway, and mail security architectures
• Assess HTTP/HTTPS, SMTP/TLS, DNS, certificates, and related security configurations
• Identify cryptographic dependencies and legacy algorithms
• Review TLS policies, cipher suites, certificate lifetimes, and certificate-management practices
• Assess web and email security controls and identify gaps
• Assess internet-facing applications and services
• Evaluate vendor technology roadmaps and PQC readiness
• Support cryptographic discovery and inventory activities
• Contribute data to CBOM and security-risk analysis
• Test and validate recommended security configurations
• Work with network architects, security engineers, and PQC specialists on remediation strategies
• Document technical findings, risks, dependencies, and recommended improvements
• Contribute to client reports, technical workshops, and remediation roadmaps
