Principal Mechanical, Process & Piping Engineer

SoftBank Group invests in breakthrough technologies across areas including artificial intelligence, robotics, telecommunications, and clean energy. The company is seeking a Principal Mechanical, Process & Piping Engineer to serve as the senior owner-side technical authority for power-generation and balance-of-plant systems, leading technical reviews, equipment procurement support, interface management, constructability, commissioning, and turnover activities.

Responsibilities:

• Act as the owner-side principal mechanical, process, and piping engineer for generation and balance-of-plant systems across development, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and turnover
• Review and challenge Owner Engineer, EPC/EPCM, OEM, and consultant calculations, specifications, datasheets, PFDs, P&IDs, line lists, drawings, equipment selections, system designs, technical deviations, and engineering assumptions
• Lead owner technical review of gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, cooling systems, pumps, compressors, piping, valves, fuel gas systems, water/steam cycle equipment, auxiliary systems, and other major mechanical/process packages
• Support technical bid evaluations, clarifications, deviations, vendor recommendations, and contract technical exhibits in partnership with Procurement and Commercial
• Identify mechanical, process, and piping scope gaps and battery-limit/interface issues across OEM packages, EPC scopes, utilities, gas/fuel systems, civil/structural design, electrical systems, controls, and commissioning
• Drive design-for-constructability, operability, maintainability, reliability, access, lifting, laydown, replacement, isolation, draining/venting, and lifecycle considerations into owner requirements and design reviews
• Support resolution of RFIs, technical queries, nonconformances, substitutions, vendor deviations, design changes, and field technical issues without assuming contractor means-and-methods responsibility
• Coordinate with Program Delivery and Construction/Site Delivery on mechanical construction readiness, equipment setting, heavy lifts, piping/system completion, preservation, turnover, flushing/cleaning, and commissioning interfaces
• Coordinate with Program Controls to ensure engineering deliverables, vendor data, procurement milestones, fabrication dates, inspections, deliveries, and technical decisions are reflected in schedule and risk reporting
• Maintain disciplined technical decision documentation and support management-of-change for material mechanical, process, and piping design decisions
• Travel required to project sites

Requirements:

• Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or related engineering discipline
• 12+ years of progressive mechanical, process, or piping engineering experience on power generation, energy infrastructure, oil and gas, LNG/midstream, industrial, or comparable large capital projects
• Deep technical knowledge of rotating equipment, thermal systems, process systems, piping, balance-of-plant mechanical systems, equipment specifications, design review, constructability, and commissioning requirements
• Demonstrated experience reviewing EPC/EPCM, Owner Engineer, OEM, and vendor technical deliverables and resolving complex multidisciplinary interfaces
• Experience supporting major equipment procurement, technical bid evaluations, vendor clarification, deviation management, fabrication, inspection, and field technical resolution
• Ability to translate technical issues into cost, schedule, procurement, permitting, reliability, operability, and executive decision implications
• Strong safety, quality, technical integrity, and management-of-change mindset
• Professional Engineer license or equivalent technical credential
• Direct experience with combined-cycle and simple-cycle gas-fired generation, gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, cooling systems, and major mechanical BOP systems
• Experience with OEMs such as GE Vernova, Siemens Energy, Mitsubishi Power, or comparable major generation-equipment suppliers
• Experience supporting mechanical completion, system turnover, commissioning, startup, performance testing, and operations readiness
• Knowledge of applicable ASME, API, NFPA, ANSI, and other relevant power/industrial mechanical and piping codes and standards
• Advanced degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, energy systems, or related technical field
