We are seeking an experienced AS400 Developer/Admin to provide application maintenance, database management, and application-level administration for an IBM AS/400 (IBM i Series) environment.
The role will focus on application development, software support, database management, and coordination with the hosted environment team for infrastructure-level modifications. The resource will also support database extraction, documentation of legacy business logic, cloud migration, and data archiving initiatives.
Key Responsibilities Legacy Application Maintenance & SupportMaintain, modify, and optimize legacy applications developed using RPG, RPG III, RPG IV (ILE RPG), RPGLE, and Control Language (CL).
Troubleshoot application bugs, batch processing issues, and user-reported system problems.
Modify existing application logic based on business and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate with hosting providers regarding system maintenance, database utilities, patching schedules, and environmental changes.
Manage application-level security, including user profiles and object-level authorities.
Review system audit logs and maintain application security.
Manage job queues, active subsystems, and application-level job scheduling.
Coordinate backup, disaster recovery, and restoration activities.
Query, manage, and tune DB2 for i databases.
Optimize SQL queries and indexes for database performance.
Support automated FTP/SFTP file transfers and integrations with external systems.
Troubleshoot and maintain application interfaces.
Assist with extracting, cleaning, and archiving legacy database tables.
Document application flows, database schemas, and system dependencies.
Support legacy application modernization and cloud migration initiatives.
Work with database administrators and cloud teams on migration activities.
5+ years of hands-on experience with AS400 / IBM i / iSeries application development and support.
Strong proficiency in RPG IV / ILE RPG, RPGLE, RPG, and CL/CLLE.
Strong SQL and DB2 for i experience.
Experience with IBM i application administration and support.
Experience with job queues, subsystems, scheduling, application security, and user profile management.
Experience with FTP/SFTP
