Undergrad Intern – Data Engineer – Amgen’s Technology & Medical Organizations (Summer 2027)

Amgen is a biotechnology company focused on developing innovative medicines for serious illnesses. The Undergrad Data Engineer Intern will collaborate with product owners, architects, business experts, and data scientists to design and develop data pipelines and supporting infrastructure for an Enterprise Data Lake. The role also involves building analytics tools with Python, SQL, and AWS and automating tasks through reusable frameworks and proof-of-concept solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborating with lead Architects, Business SMEs and Data Scientists to design and develop end-to-end data pipelines and support infrastructure
• Building new infrastructure and analytics tools using Python, SQL and AWS
• Proactively identifying & implementing opportunities to automate tasks and develop reusable frameworks; participating in efforts to design, build, and develop rapid Proof-of-Concept (POC) solutions and services

Requirements:

• Expected completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
• Expected continued enrollment in an accredited college or university following the internship program
• Student must be located in the United States for the duration of the internship program
• Must be available to work a full-time schedule
• Must be available to accept and commit to future full-time employment by July 2028, if offered
• 18 years or older
• Currently enrolled in a full-time Bachelor's Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
• Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. for the duration of this program
• Degree concentration(s) in Information Technology, Computer Science (e.g., CS, CPE, SE), Engineering, Business, or related field
• Biotechnology, pharmaceutical or health care industry experience
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
• Strong interpersonal, project management, analytical and quantitative skills
• Proficient in one of the coding languages (Python, Java, Scala, SQL)
• Detail oriented
• Demonstrated personal initiative, self-motivation, flexibility, adaptability and resourcefulness
• Ability to operate independently, across functional lines, and with both internal and external customers
• Coursework in one or more of the following areas:
• Business Systems analysis, Lean, Agile (SCRUM) and other SDLC processes, Software Development, Database Modeling, Web Design and Development, IT Management, Management of Cloud based application, B2B Collaboration, Enterprise systems such as configuration and management of ERP, CRM systems
