Hourly Data Analyst

New Jersey Institute of Technology is seeking an Hourly Data Analyst to support an NIH-funded biomedical research project. The role provides undergraduate research experience while assisting with literature review, biological information curation, biomedical data analysis, computational method implementation and testing, and preparation of research materials.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct literature review related to biomedical data science, computational biology, bioinformatics, and relevant biological background information
• Collect, organize, and curate prior biological information and publicly available biomedical data relevant to the project
• Implement, test, and document basic core functions of proposed computational methods under supervision
• Run baseline methods, software tools, and computational experiments as directed by the supervisor or graduate mentor
• Assist with simulation of synthetic data and collection, processing, and analysis of real data
• Contribute to the development and testing of user-friendly research software, scripts, notebooks, or documentation
• Participate in regular research meetings, provide progress updates, and receive guidance from the PI, co-investigator, and graduate mentor
• Help prepare research summaries, figures, reports, posters, presentations, or other materials related to the project

Requirements:

• Current undergraduate student in computer science, data science, bioinformatics, biology, mathematics, statistics, engineering, or a related field
• Interest in biomedical research, computational biology, bioinformatics, machine learning, data science, or related areas
• Ability to work responsibly under supervision, communicate progress, and meet agreed-upon deadlines
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn new scientific and computational concepts
• At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position
• Prior coursework or experience in programming, data analysis, algorithms, statistics, machine learning, biology, genetics, genomics, or bioinformatics
• Experience with Python, R, Linux/command line, Git/GitHub, Jupyter notebooks, or similar tools is helpful but not required
• Prior research experience is helpful but not required
