Senior Software Engineer, Full-stack - D&I Solutions

Planet is a space and data company that operates a large constellation of imaging satellites and provides cloud-based satellite data platforms. The Senior Software Engineer, Full Stack - D&I Solutions will design, implement, and operate full-stack features for a customized application serving Defense & Intelligence customers, while contributing technical leadership and mentoring other engineers.

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement features across the full stack, from user interface through API and data layers
• Develop and maintain applications using React, TypeScript, and Python
• Build and evolve the APIs and services that power the application, including data access and integration with upstream geospatial systems
• Mentor other engineers through code reviews and technical discussions
• Drive architectural decisions spanning frontend and backend, including component design, state management, API contracts, and service boundaries
• Own features end to end, including deployment, observability, and production support
• Collaborate with product managers and designers to deliver solutions

Requirements:

• This is a full-time, remote position based in the United States. If located near an office, you are expected to work from that office 3 days per week
• 10+ years of relevant work experience building and operating web applications end to end
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other relevant field
• Proficiency with React, TypeScript, and component-based frontend architecture
• Proficiency with a server-side language such as Python or Go
• Experience designing, building, and operating backend services and REST APIs in production
• Working knowledge of relational databases, data modeling, and query performance
• Experience defining API contracts and integrating frontend and backend systems
• Ability to lead feature implementation from discovery through deployment and production support
• Ability to improve team capabilities through code reviews and knowledge sharing
• Experience mentoring teammates on engineering best practices
• Professional working proficiency in English, the language of the company
• This position requires access to export-controlled information, and as such, employment (or hiring of a contractor) is contingent upon the candidate's ability to access all applicable export-controlled information without additional export licensing being required by the Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls
• Experience with mapping libraries, geospatial data pipelines, or data visualization tools
• Experience with containerized deployments, Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code
• Experience with modern testing frameworks and CI/CD practices and leveraging AI tools to enhance productivity
• Background in geospatial technologies, remote sensing, or the defense and intelligence sector
