Software Engineer, Online Giving

GiveCampus is a fundraising platform for nonprofit educational institutions. The Software Engineer will build and maintain donor-facing giving experiences, payment flows, and administrative tools while owning projects across the full stack. The role also involves collaborating with cross-functional partners, participating in Agile development, and supporting production systems.

Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain donor-facing giving forms, giving pages, and admin tools with a focus on conversion, accessibility, and mobile-first design
• Build and harden payment flows—one-time, recurring, and memberships—across Stripe, ACH, and Digital Wallets, with reliability and observability in mind
• Work across the full stack, from UI components to backend services to database queries and performance
• Own features and small-to-medium projects end to end: technical design and work breakdown, coding, automated testing, deployment, and support in production
• Partner closely with your pod's Tech Lead, Product Manager, Designer, and fellow engineers to turn user needs and business goals into technical solutions, and speak up early when you spot blockers or trade-offs
• Participate actively in sprint planning, story scoping, and estimation, including thorough review of acceptance criteria
• Write clean, well-tested, well-documented code, and give and receive thoughtful code review
• Contribute to team initiatives like technical debt refinement and coding standards, and help teammates get unstuck
• Participate in interviewing and onboarding as the team grows
• Support the platform on a rotational basis, including team-based support and a paired 24/7 on-call rotation. Support work includes payment and deposit reconciliation, recurring-gift issues, reporting fixes, and partner configuration requests

Requirements:

• 3+ years of hands-on, real-world development experience
• Full-stack proficiency: a modern front-end framework (React or Vue.js) plus a backend language and framework (Ruby on Rails, Node.js, Python, or similar)
• Experience contributing to technical design discussions and breaking down features into well-scoped, incrementally shippable work
• Solid SQL database skills: schema design, query writing and optimization, and a real concern for data integrity
• Experience building and integrating with RESTful APIs
• A test-driven mindset: unit, integration, and end-to-end testing as part of how you build
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or similar) and CI/CD pipelines
• Good debugging instincts, including in production, and the judgment to balance shipping quickly against long-term maintainability
• Clear communication, comfort with ambiguity and shifting priorities, and genuine ownership of your work from conception through deployment and maintenance
• A user-focused mindset: you think about how engineering decisions land for donors, school administrators, and fundraising results
• Rails and React experience is preferred
• Payments experience: Stripe or a comparable platform, ACH, digital wallets, webhooks, idempotency and retries, reconciliation, or testing against third-party services. This is the single strongest signal for this team
• Experience with Ruby on Rails and RSpec
• Experience building consumer-facing checkout or donation flows
• Experience on a fundraising, crowdfunding, fintech, or e-commerce product
• Familiarity with caching, observability tooling, or triaging performance and stability issues
• A good eye for intuitive, user-friendly front-end design
