Mechanical Engineer 3 (NSSS System Design)

NuScale Power develops nuclear power systems based on the NuScale Power Module and nuclear steam supply system (NSSS). The Mechanical Engineer 3 will support NSSS system and component design, inspection, testing, engineering evaluations, technical documentation, and licensing activities while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities:

• Possesses a working knowledge of NSSS Nuclear Power Plant Designs (e.g., PWR/BWR) and has detailed knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards and regulations
• Generate technical requirements for NSSS systems, structures and components
• Perform and check engineering evaluations in accordance with NuScale company procedures, by applying sound engineering judgement
• Support the preparation and review of engineering specifications, drawings, reports and other documentation that communicate the design and technical aspects of systems, structures and components associated with the nuclear steam supply system
• Interacts with co-workers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. Individuals should be interested in acquiring general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi-disciplinary teams
• Support development and implementation of effective processes for system design specifications
• Possess strong written and oral communication skills
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, from a four year ABET accredited college or university is required
• Minimum of 5 years of full-time, relevant professional experience is required
• Candidates must have good communication, computer, presentation and interpersonal skills with a high degree of attention to detail
• Must have solid technical writing skills, exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage projects with multiple work phases
• Possess a working knowledge of ASME Codes and Standards and 10CFR 50
• Nuclear Utility or plant experience and knowledge
• NSSS System/Component Design, Inspection & Testing
• Resolving complex & multidisciplinary design issues
• Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810
• Ability to understand and communicate clearly using a phone, personal interaction, and computers
• Ability to learn new job functions and comprehend and understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in a rapidly evolving environment
• The employee frequently is required; to sit and stand; walk; bend, use hands to operate office equipment; and reach with hands and arms
• Ability to travel nationally and locally using common forms of transportation
• An Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification or PE license in Mechanical is desirable, but not required
