Senior Data Engineer, Microsoft Fabric & AI - GS1 Global Office

GS1 is a neutral, not-for-profit organization that develops and maintains global supply-chain standards, including the barcode. The Senior Data Engineer will build scalable Microsoft Fabric and Azure data platforms, deliver Power BI business intelligence, and develop responsible AI-enabled solutions using RAG pipelines and LLMs. The role also owns production reliability, governance, technical standards, and coaching across the global organization.

Responsibilities:

• Design and build scalable data platforms: pipelines, Lakehouse, Data Warehouse and semantic models on Microsoft Fabric and Azure, using reusable design patterns
• Integrate data reliably with Fabric Data Pipelines, Azure Data Factory and APIs, and help drive migration and modernisation initiatives
• Bring AI into production: build RAG pipelines (data preparation, chunking, embeddings, indexing, retrieval) that connect enterprise data to Claude and other approved LLM platforms, with accurate and traceable results
• Prototype AI use cases with senior leaders: weigh business value, architecture, risk and guardrails, then monitor quality, performance and cost once the use cases are live
• Deliver actionable BI: build Power BI dashboards, datasets and semantic models, and promote consistent definitions and measures across the organisation
• Make quality and governance part of the design: data validation, observability, lineage, role-based access, data classification and responsible AI practices
• Own production: CI/CD, automated testing, incident resolution, root-cause analysis, runbooks and recovery procedures
• Lead technically: review code and designs, coach team members and explain trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical audiences across a global organisation
