Senior Mechanical Engineer - Building Systems

Fuss & O’Neill is an engineering and design firm focused on creating long-lasting improvements for communities. They are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the planning, design, project management, and delivery of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for commercial, industrial, education, and municipal facilities.

Responsibilities:

• Lead mechanical design and serve as project manager for building systems projects, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems
• Develop and review construction documents, technical specifications, and cost estimates
• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements (e.g., ASHRAE, local building codes)
• Manage project scope, schedule, and budgets for assigned projects
• Serve as the primary point of contact for select projects, building and maintaining strong client relationships
• Coordinate and manage multi-disciplinary design teams, including internal civil, structural, and electrical staff
• Oversee construction administration activities, including submittal review, responses to RFIs, and site visits
• Lead and participate in internal and external project meetings, maintaining clear communication with clients, consultants, and contractors
• Support proposal development, level-of-effort estimating, and project planning
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical development within the mechanical team

Requirements:

• • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
• • 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design for building systems (HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection)
• • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
• • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit for MEP design
• • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing systems, fire protection, and applicable building codes and ASHRAE standards
• • Experience managing projects through design and construction phases
• • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients and project teams
• • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
• • Ability to travel to job sites in CT, MA, and RI
• • Familiarity with BIM coordination tools preferred
