Senior Energy Markets Manager

Voltus is a distributed energy resource technology platform and virtual power plant operator focused on delivering more affordable, reliable, and sustainable electricity. The Senior Energy Markets Manager will lead the company’s MISO strategy and portfolio, manage external relationships and a small team, and coordinate cross-functional initiatives involving market design, customers, product, sales, engineering, and operations.

Responsibilities:

• Own the MISO book. Be accountable for the revenue and profitability of our MISO DER portfolio: including financial modeling, forecasting, and performance optimization
• Be our eyes and ears on market design. Work directly with MISO and other RTO/ISO staff to track evolving market rules and product changes; translate what's changing into clear implications for customers, Product, and the rest of the Energy Markets team
• Build and maintain external relationships. Develop and sustain relationships with MISO staff, utility representatives, and DER/technology partners; use those relationships to move things forward for Voltus and represent us well externally
• Manage and develop people. Directly manage a small team, delegate effectively, coach, and grow their skills while staying close enough to the work to unblock them
• Lead cross-functionally. Act as a general project manager across Sales, Product, Engineering, and Operations. Your goal is to bring groups together, driving decisions, and keeping initiatives on track without waiting for someone else to own it
• Prioritize ruthlessly and adaptively. Know when something needs to happen now versus when it can wait, and be willing to change course quickly as market conditions or priorities shift
• Onboard new asset types and partners. Lead the operational onboarding of new resource types (e.g., batteries) and new technology/DER partners into our MISO portfolio

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience in energy markets, demand response, or a closely related field
• A track record of effectively managing a team
• A natural relationship-builder with real charisma. You build trust quickly with internal and external teams, communicating effectively in both directions
• Strong Excel and Google Sheets skills
• Excellent cross-functional project management instincts. You can coordinate across teams, delegate effectively, and drive ambiguous initiatives to resolution
• Gritty. You've done hard things, and you're not afraid to put in the work. You're energized by ambiguity and a fast-changing market landscape

• Voltus teammates need to be authorized to work from their home location (in the US or Canada, unless otherwise indicated on the role description)
• SQL and/or Python
• managing or onboarding battery storage assets
• experience working directly with an RTO/ISO (MISO experience a strong plus)
