Senior Software Engineer, Backend

Dave is a financial app building technology-driven products to improve access to affordable and transparent financial services. The Senior Software Engineer, Backend will design, build, and scale event-driven backend services for real-time and asynchronous risk decisioning, while collaborating across teams, leading technical initiatives, and mentoring engineers.

Responsibilities:

• We're looking for talented engineers to play an instrumental role in building products that help millions of people
• Design and build backend services in TypeScript for real-time and asynchronous risk decisioning
• Build and maintain event-driven workflows using queues, pub/sub, and cloud task infrastructure
• Design and implement state machines to model multi-step decisioning and verification flows
• Work closely with product, operations, and infrastructure to build and scale backend services
• Regularly participate in code reviews and other team functions
• Own end-to-end delivery of small to medium-sized projects from design through production
• Provide technical leadership and help guide the team's overall technical direction
• Offer mentorship and pair with other engineers regularly

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• 5+ years of experience in software development
• Hands-on experience with event-driven architecture (message queues, pub/sub, or similar)
• Experience with cloud task/job scheduling systems (e.g., Cloud Tasks, SQS, Celery, or equivalent)
• Experience designing or implementing state machines for multi-step workflows
• Strong CS fundamentals and problem-solving skills
• Proven ability to work as part of a team
• Experience programming in TypeScript/JavaScript (Node.js) or similar experience in Java, Python, C/C++, or Go
• Experience with MySQL, and Google Cloud Platform
• Effective communication skills, a positive attitude, and ability to give and receive constructive feedback
• The ability to discuss and explain system architecture and design
• Comfortable using AI tools as part of your engineering workflow, with sound judgment about when to rely on them and when not to
