Grainger is a leading broad-line distributor serving customers with maintenance, repair, and operating products and technology-enabled solutions. The Senior Software Engineer will support the publishing process for product data by designing, developing, testing, implementing, and supporting internal tools and customer-facing systems. The role also involves full-stack development, continuous delivery improvements, production support, and collaboration with technical and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

• Build applications and develop product solutions in partnership with engineers, architects, product designers, and product managers, leading to scalable, maintainable, and user-friendly software solutions
• Utilize Full Stack development skills (primarily React and Java) based on specific platform or domain needs
• Implement continuous delivery improvements and drive engineering best practices, with a focus on quality gates and deployment confidence
• Provide production system support, including participating in an evening on-call rotation and collaborating with engineers and stakeholders to debug issues and uncover root causes
• Support team activities and pair with peers to work on stories
• Consistently practice sensible defaults

Requirements:

• Only individuals authorized to work in the United States now and for the foreseeable future will be considered for this position
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required
• 3+ years experience with modern software engineering; designing, building, and deploying scalable software applications required
• Full stack software development experience in modern technologies such as React, Java, Typescript
• Working knowledge of backend integration patterns including REST APIs, event-driven systems, and asynchronous workflows
• Understanding of distributed system design
• Familiarity with using AI agents to understand existing systems, write code, improve workflows
• Experience analyzing and interpreting complex problems and processes
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and DevOps practices
