Prin Mechanical Engineer (SRM - Thermal Analyst) (Remote Option Available)

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems is a global leader in the design, engineering, and production of munitions, energetics, weapons, armaments, and missile subsystems. The company is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to support its Solid Rocket Motor Engineering Team by designing, developing, integrating, and thermally analyzing mechanical components and thermal protection systems for solid rocket motors.

Responsibilities:

• Applies advanced engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment
• Guides the interpretation of blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports
• Collaborates with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information
• Researches and analyzes customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications
• Specifies system components or directs modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications
• Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and makes recommendations to maintenance crew
• Perform detailed thermal analysis of solid rocket motor components
• Size internal insulation, external thermal protection systems, and structural insulators
• Validate models with test data; develop predictive ablation and erosion models
• Define sub-scale tests for characterizing material properties of insulators and ablators
• Evaluate and recommend ablative materials and thermal protection system solutions for applications in solid rocket motors
• Create reports and presentations documenting analysis and other supporting work
• Present to peers and customers in design reviews

Requirements:

• The ideal candidate will have experience as Mechanical Design Engineer for solid rocket motors
• Required education and experience: Associate's Degree and 8-10 years' experience
• Discipline/Major: Engineering degree required
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
