Senior Software Engineer - Java Microservices & AWS

Cognizant is a digital services company supporting enterprise and healthcare operations. The Senior Software Engineer will design, develop, and deliver scalable, secure healthcare payer applications using Java, Python, microservices, cloud technologies, and modern data platforms. The role also focuses on backend services, APIs, reliability, testing, CI/CD, and collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and enhance scalable microservices-based applications using Java, Spring Boot, Python, and cloud-native technologies
• Build and optimize backend services, APIs, and database solutions that support high-volume healthcare payer operations and business workflows
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements, estimate effort, and deliver high-value features through Agile development practices
• Improve application performance, reliability, and scalability by identifying bottlenecks, implementing monitoring solutions, and resolving production issues
• Contribute to code quality, automated testing, CI/CD practices, and engineering best practices through code reviews, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives

Requirements:

• Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, and REST API development
• Hands-on experience with Python and modern software engineering practices
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB
• Experience with cloud and container technologies, including AWS (EC2, EMR, RDS, S3, Athena), Kubernetes, and Docker
• Experience with CI/CD and software quality tools such as GitLab, CloudWatch, JUnit, and Mockito
• Experience working within the Healthcare Payer domain
• Experience supporting Capitation platforms, payment models, or healthcare claims-related solutions
• Experience with Apache Spark and large-scale data processing environments
• Strong understanding of distributed system design, observability, and microservices architecture
• Experience improving application performance, scalability, and operational efficiency in cloud environments
• Ability to mentor team members, influence technical decisions, and drive engineering best practices across distributed teams
