Senior Data Engineer

The ability to work effectively across the client, onshore, and offshore teams will be an important factor in the candidate's success and in the continued growth of the engineering team.

Position Overview

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Snowflake and advanced SQL to join the team immediately.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience building production-grade data solutions, executing data migrations, maintaining high standards for financial data accuracy, and reviewing engineering work. In addition to technical expertise, the candidate should be comfortable coordinating an offshore development team and communicating directly with clients.

This role will be instrumental in helping build and grow the overall engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain production-grade data solutions using Snowflake.
• Build and work extensively with Snowflake Stored Procedures, Tasks, Streams, and MERGE.
• Develop complex, efficient, and maintainable SQL using CTEs, window functions, and advanced SQL techniques.
• Read, understand, and work with existing Node.js code as needed.
• Lead or contribute to like-for-like data/system migrations, with a strong focus on accuracy and consistency.
• Define and execute validation and reconciliation processes to demonstrate that the new system produces results consistent with the legacy system.
• Maintain strict standards around fixed-precision decimals, monetary calculations, and consistent rounding.
• Review SQL and data engineering code produced by other engineers, including AI-generated SQL, and identify accuracy, performance, and maintainability issues.
• Conduct first-line PR/code reviews and provide constructive technical feedback.
• Coordinate with the offshore development team, providing technical guidance, reviewing deliverables, and helping resolve development issues.
• Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders regarding requirements, technical issues, project status, and solutions.
• Remain hands-on with development while providing technical leadership and guidance to the broader team.

Required Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience building production systems on Snowflake.
• Advanced SQL expertise, including:
• CTEs
• Window functions
• Complex joins and transformations
• Data validation and reconciliation
• Hands-on experience with:
• Snowflake Stored Procedures
• Tasks
• Streams
• MERGE
• Experience delivering at least one like-for-like migration and the ability to clearly explain how the results were validated against the legacy system.
• Strong understanding of data accuracy, fixed-precision decimals, and consistent rounding, particularly for monetary or transactional data.
• Ability to read and understand Node.js code comfortably.
• Experience reviewing and validating other engineers' SQL and AI-generated SQL.
• Previous experience managing or coordinating offshore development teams.
• Strong client-facing communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to remain hands-on technically while providing team-level technical leadership.

• Experience in payments, billing, or financial/transactional data.
