Structural Engineer (environmental engineering)

Brown and Caldwell is a national environmental engineering firm specializing in water and wastewater treatment. The Structural Engineer will lead structural design activities, prepare drawings and specifications, conduct structural analysis and investigations, coordinate across disciplines, and support construction-phase execution.

Responsibilities:

• Perform structural analysis and design of concrete, steel, aluminum, and masonry structures
• Conduct existing conditions investigation and prepare associated reports
• Prepare structural drawings and structural specifications in compliance with building codes
• Engage in cross-discipline coordination with different disciplines and team members for project execution
• Provide construction phase support including shop drawing reviews, RFI responses, change order preparation, and substitution requests
• Flexibility to adapt and execute various assignments based on evolving needs
• May provide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge-sharing to help less experienced team members develop their skills and grow within their roles

Requirements:

• Intermediate proficiency in structural analysis, design and detailing of concrete, steel, aluminum, and masonry
• Possess a working knowledge of the latest building codes and regulations, including: ACI 318, ACI 350, AISC 360, IBC, and ASCE 7
• Capability to investigate existing conditions and prepare precise reports
• Proficient in the use of structural analysis and design software (RISA or STAAD)
• Possess a basic understanding of water treatment processes
• Typically, a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in structural engineering or a related field
• Experience in structural design and understanding construction processes in detail
• Proven track record of reviewing shop drawings and responding to RFI's in a construction setting
• Has passed or is working towards passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam required for Engineer in Training registration
• A bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a focus on structural engineering or equivalent relevant experience is required
• 5+ years of relevant experience in structural engineering
• Structural design experience with wastewater treatment plant or industrial facilities
• PE license
• SE license or, if not licensed, desire to pursue SE licensure
• Knowledge of concrete, steel, aluminum, masonry and wood structural design per IBC and referenced standards
• Knowledge in seismic design of structures using various code analysis procedures
• Experience with ASCE 41
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across disciplines on a multi-discipline team
• Solutions driven and results oriented approach to project execution
• A master's degree in Civil Engineering (structural course work emphasis)
