Sr. BAW Software Engineer

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is a health insurance organization seeking a Senior BAW Software Engineer for its Sales and Marketing Systems team. The role leads the design, development, implementation, modernization, and support of enterprise workflow and decision-management solutions using IBM BAW/BPM and IBM ODM, while providing technical leadership, architecture guidance, mentoring, and production support.

Responsibilities:

• Formulates and defines system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to design, develop, modify, or integrate complex information systems
• Devises or modifies application systems and procedures to optimize functional requirements including capacity, operating time, response time, and form of desired results
• Designs, codes, tests, debugs, and documents programs, subroutines, and scripts
• Develops and implements program/system test plans. Devises data verification methods and standard system procedures
• Responds to system failures and performance events by taking appropriate measures to reduce system downtime and eliminate recurrence of problems
• May conduct research on software and hardware products to justify recommendations and support management in budgeting and purchasing efforts
• Acts as expert technical resource to development staff in all phases of the development and implementation process

Requirements:

• extensive hands-on experience developing and supporting enterprise workflow and business-rule solutions using IBM BAW/BPM and IBM ODM
• experience designing and implementing complex workflow components including processes, human services, coaches, dashboards, toolkits, reusable frameworks, and workflow orchestration capabilities
• integrating enterprise applications through REST APIs, SOAP services, JMS/MQ messaging, and database technologies
• leading platform upgrades, migrations, and modernization initiatives
• Strong experience with Java/J2EE, JavaScript, SQL, enterprise databases, production support, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and root cause analysis
• experience with requirements gathering, technical estimation, architecture reviews, code reviews, mentoring developers, and providing technical leadership within Agile/Scrum delivery environments
• 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, developing, enhancing, and supporting enterprise workflow solutions using IBM BPM 8.x and/or IBM BAW 20.x, 21.x, or 24.x
• 3+ years of hands-on IBM Operational Decision Manager experience, including developing and integrating business-rule and decision-management solutions with enterprise workflows
• Extensive experience developing Business Process Definitions and Processes, Human Services, Client-Side Human Services, Coaches, Coach Views, dashboards, UCAs, Business Objects, toolkits, reusable components, and exception-handling frameworks
• Strong experience integrating IBM BAW and ODM solutions with internal and external systems through REST APIs, SOAP web services, JMS/MQ messaging, databases, and stored procedures
• Proficiency with Java/J2EE, JavaScript, SQL, and enterprise database platforms, including SQL Server and DB2
• Experience leading IBM BAW upgrades and migrations, supporting deployments across Development, QA, UAT, and Production, and performing troubleshooting, performance tuning, optimization, and root cause analysis
• Experience with formal requirements gathering including BABOK good practices, architecture reviews, solution design, and technical estimation while establishing coding standards, conducting code reviews, mentoring developers, and collaborating with business, architecture, QA, and infrastructure teams in an Agile/Scrum environment
• Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience required. Equivalent years of experience are determined as one year of technical experience for every year of college requested
• 1 year - Experience with information technology concepts, application development methodology, terminology, and standards required
• 5 years - Systems and programming experience required
• 1 year - Expert working knowledge of at least one programming language in use at BCBST
• Proven skill with information technology in use at BCBST is required
• Proven analysis, design, and coding skills, and demonstrated success in leading large and complex projects
• Top level technical experience in one or more specialized areas of applications systems analysis and programming
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and translate technical and/or or complex concepts into information meaningful to project team members and/or business personnel
• Be organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple tasks with exceptional work ethic
• Leadership skills
• Must be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical co-workers
