Software Engineer - AI Platforms

Figma is a collaborative design and development platform that helps teams bring ideas to life and work together in real time. The Software Engineer - AI Platforms will build scalable, reliable systems and core infrastructure supporting AI features, including agent infrastructure, context retrieval, evaluation frameworks, and shared AI services. The role also involves cross-functional collaboration, production debugging, platform strategy, and mentoring engineers.

Responsibilities:

• Support end-to-end AI feature development by designing, building, and maintaining systems that are scalable, reliable, and performant
• Collaborate with product, research, and infrastructure engineers working across AI
• Help shape our platform strategy, roadmaps, and engineering best practices throughout the organization
• Debug and resolve complex production issues that span services and layers of the stack
• Mentor engineers and foster a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and technical excellence

Requirements:

• 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, especially in backend or infrastructure engineering
• 3+ years of experience in one or more of: AI, search infrastructure, or developer platforms
• Proficiency in TypeScript, Python, or Ruby
• Strong system design skills and a track record of architecting resilient production systems
• Excellent communication skills, with experience collaborating across teams and mentoring others
• Prior experience in building AI infrastructure at scale, whether that be model training or serving platforms
• Experience evolving large-scale, shared developer platforms to improve reliability and developer velocity
• A proven track record of leading technical strategy and complex, multi-team projects
