Senior Software Development Engineer

CVS Health is hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of digital solutions that support member experiences. The role focuses on cloud-native, microservices-based applications, event-driven architecture, and emerging AI technologies, while collaborating with cross-functional teams and mentoring peers.

Responsibilities:

• The Senior Software Development Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of innovative digital solutions that power exceptional member experiences
• In this role, you will leverage advanced technical expertise to architect and build cloud-native, microservices-based applications with a strong emphasis on event-driven architecture, modern technology stacks, and emerging AI technologies
• You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across Digital, Data and Analytics, and Platform Engineering to drive innovation and shape the overall technical direction of our digital engineering initiatives
• This position also involves contributing to technical direction, mentoring peers, and partnering with architects and product teams to translate business requirements into scalable, maintainable solutions
• The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who takes ownership of the full software lifecycle - from design through deployment and operations - and brings a collaborative, problem-solving mindset to every challenge

Requirements:

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on enterprise-level digital solutions
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript, including strong proficiency in asynchronous programming and server-side application development
• 2+ years of experience building and deploying cloud-based solutions
• Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and deploying microservices-based applications, ensuring scalability and maintainability
• Proficiency in testing frameworks and methodologies, including unit testing, integration testing, and code review practices to ensure enterprise-grade code quality
• Hands-on experience with relational and non-relational databases (PostgreSQL, Redis, OpenSearch, MongoDB), including data modeling and query optimization
• Experience with event-driven services and architectures, including message brokers and event streaming platforms such as Apache Kafka
• Experience building RESTful APIs, including middleware implementation and routing (e.g., Express framework)
• Proficient understanding of SQL and NoSQL database technologies, including cloud-native database services
• Familiarity with emerging AI technologies and their practical applications in software development
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (Highschool diploma plus 4 years relevant work experience)
• preference for AWS
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), particularly deploying and managing microservices on AWS
• Experience with serverless architectures and cloud-native design patterns
• Familiarity with open-source frameworks and modern development tooling
• Working knowledge of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban), including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives
• Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, fostering a collaborative environment and contributing to team success
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions under time pressure
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
