Senior Market Data Engineer

Coinbase is building the future of institutional trading through systems that enable financial institutions to trade across markets with speed, depth, and trust. The Senior Market Data Engineer will build and operate low-latency systems that capture, normalize, and distribute real-time market data, while improving reliability and partnering with cross-functional teams to support the institutional trading roadmap.

Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain market data components including feed handlers, normalization pipelines, distribution systems, and venue connectivity
• Design and implement low-latency, high-throughput services for real-time market data consumed by trading systems across the platform
• Drive reliability and performance improvements through observability, on-call participation, and incident response
• Write high-quality, well-tested code and contribute to engineering standards on a lean team
• Partner with engineers, product managers, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver market data capabilities that support Coinbase's institutional trading roadmap

Requirements:

• 3+ years of backend engineering experience building and maintaining production low-latency systems
• Hands-on experience with at least one area of market data infrastructure (feed handlers, normalization, or distribution)
• Proficiency in low-latency Java (or C++) and familiarity with high-throughput messaging frameworks (Aeron, SBE, or similar)
• Familiarity with venue/exchange connectivity and market data protocols (FIX, ITCH/OUCH, multicast)
• Track record shipping features end-to-end and operating what you build in production
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality
