Senior Ellucian Banner Oracle Database Administrator

Role and responsibilities

• Administer and troubleshoot production and test Ellucian Banner environments on Oracle and Red Hat Enterprise Linux; monitor health, availability, capacity and performance.
• Install, configure, patch and upgrade Oracle Database, Oracle Enterprise Manager, Ellucian Banner, Ellucian Solution Manager, Apache Tomcat and OpenJDK; validate changes and maintain recovery plans.
• Support Broadcom Applications Manager, TouchNet Banner Connect and Banner-connected Workflow, Intelligent Processes, INB, Job Subs and Xtender database components as applicable.
• Investigate Oracle and Banner incidents, diagnose SQL and database performance issues, communicate service impact, and coordinate corrective action with University infrastructure and applications staff.
• Manage Oracle accounts, roles and privileges; deploy University-created database objects and support approved access changes using least-privilege practices.
• Maintain and test RMAN, cold-backup and Commvault recovery processes; verify backup success, perform restores and participate in twice-yearly disaster recovery exercises.
• Refresh PPRD, DEV1 and SAND from production every other month, refresh other development environments on request, and execute approved month-end processing procedures.
• Coordinate F5 virtual servers and pools with networking staff and stop or start application services around OS maintenance. Support approved OCI planning or migration activities within the agreed service scope.
• Document runbooks, incidents, changes, recovery procedures and handovers; receive knowledge transfer from the retiring University employee and keep the backup DBA informed.

Qualifications and experience

• Demonstrated hands-on production Ellucian Banner administration and Oracle DBA experience on Red Hat Linux. Provide project examples, dates, responsibilities and outcomes.
• Strong Oracle 19c skills in patching, monitoring, SQL troubleshooting, account security, RMAN recovery, cloning or refreshes and disaster recovery testing.
• Practical Tomcat and Java/OpenJDK administration and the ability to troubleshoot Banner services, application dependencies and scheduled jobs.
• Experience supporting critical systems through an incident queue and on-call rotation, with clear incident updates, escalation and documented handovers.
• Ability to work securely through VPN and MFA, protect University information, follow change approvals and collaborate with infrastructure and application teams.

Preferred experience includes higher education ERP operations, Ellucian Solution Manager, Broadcom Applications Manager, TouchNet, Commvault, F5, Active Directory, SAML/CAS/EEI, and OCI migration support. Relevant certifications are welcome if held; no specific certification or numerical minimum years of experience is stated in the RFP.

Environment and coverage

The current environment includes 14 Oracle databases, five production and nine test, on five servers with ten Oracle homes, plus 75 Tomcat instances across 20 servers. Databases are on premises, with no high availability listed. The latest published answer identifies Oracle release 19.32; Banner environments use March or September 2026 releases.
