Senior Project Manager - Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

EWI Recruitment is recruiting for an unnamed leading renewable energy developer, owner, and operator. The Senior Project Manager will oversee utility-scale battery energy storage, solar, and hybrid renewable energy projects from development through construction, commissioning, and handover to operations.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the execution of multiple utility-scale renewable energy and energy storage projects simultaneously
• Coordinate activities across internal teams, contractors, suppliers, and external stakeholders to achieve project objectives
• Manage project schedules, budgets, risks, and key project deliverables
• Oversee relationships with EPC contractors, OEMs, O&M providers, and other project partners
• Support project development and pre-construction teams during permitting, engineering, and planning phases
• Drive project progression from notice-to-proceed through commissioning and commercial operation
• Administer contracts, manage scope changes, and oversee change order processes
• Monitor and report project performance, including schedule, cost, safety, quality, and risk metrics
• Coordinate project warranty claims and contractual obligations
• Ensure compliance with applicable health, safety, environmental, and quality standards
• Provide financial and commercial input into project budgeting, forecasting, bids, and proposals
• Support site assessments, construction activities, commissioning, and operational handovers
• Capture and implement lessons learned to continuously improve project delivery processes

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline
• Minimum 5 years of project management experience delivering utility-scale renewable energy projects
• Strong understanding of renewable energy technologies, including energy storage, solar, and hybrid systems
• Proven track record managing large, complex infrastructure or power generation projects
• Experience working with EPC contracts, OEMs, contractors, and project stakeholders
• Familiarity with construction management, commissioning activities, and project controls
• Knowledge of permitting and regulatory requirements associated with renewable energy projects
• Experience with project management software, including Procore or similar platforms
• Strong commercial awareness, problem-solving capabilities, and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced and evolving environment
• Experience within major North American power markets such as ERCOT, CAISO, PJM, or NYISO is highly desirable
• Prior battery energy storage (BESS) project experience is advantageous
