Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

STERIS is hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test to establish and own automated quality engineering capabilities for its SPM Cloud platform. The role defines and executes testing strategy, quality governance, release assurance, and automation architecture to support software quality and ongoing product development.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborates with cross-functional teams to analyze requirements, define test strategies, and support project planning and execution
• Designs, develops, maintains, and enhances automated testing frameworks and quality engineering solutions aligned to enterprise development standards and best practices
• Develops and executes functional, integration, regression, API, and end-to-end automated test suites to ensure software quality and release readiness
• Establishes testing standards, automation practices, and quality engineering processes to support long-term product success
• Participates in release readiness reviews, deployment validation activities, and continuous improvement initiatives across the software delivery lifecycle
• Investigates software defects, performs root cause analysis, and works with engineering teams to implement corrective actions
• Collaborates with developers and architects to improve application quality, testability, reliability, and maintainability
• Ensures traceability between business requirements, acceptance criteria, test cases, and validation results
• Creates and maintains testing documentation, quality metrics, test coverage analysis, and operational procedures
• Leads the evolution of automated testing capabilities while promoting engineering best practices and quality-focused development

Requirements:

• deep software development expertise and hands-on coding experience in JavaScript, TypeScript, and/or C#, along with strong working knowledge of SQL
• experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable automated testing frameworks for enterprise applications
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field
• 8+ years of professional software testing, quality engineering, test automation, or related software engineering experience
• Experience building and maintaining automated test frameworks for enterprise software applications
• Strong experience with Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or equivalent modern test automation frameworks
• Experience developing automated tests using TypeScript, JavaScript, C#, or similar programming languages
• Experience testing REST APIs, web services, integrations, and distributed applications
• Working knowledge of SQL, database validation techniques, and Git-based source control workflows
• Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and Agile software delivery environments
• Experience supporting production applications through defect triage, troubleshooting, release validation, and root cause analysis activities
• Qualified candidates currently residing within commuting distance of Vernon Hills preferred
• Experience with Playwright at enterprise scale
• Experience testing React-based applications and modern web architectures
• Experience testing cloud-native applications hosted in Azure
• Familiarity with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or other modern CI/CD platforms
• Experience testing event-driven, messaging, or API-first architectures
• Knowledge of performance, load, stress, resiliency, accessibility, and WCAG compliance testing practices
• Experience with observability platforms such as Application Insights, Datadog, Splunk, Grafana, or similar solutions
• Familiarity with Docker, containerized environments, and modern development workflows
• Experience working in healthcare, medical device, regulated, or compliance-driven software environments
• Experience establishing quality engineering standards and mentoring engineers within distributed software teams
• Knowledge of service virtualization, contract testing, and consumer-driven testing approaches
• Exposure to AI-assisted software development and validation practices
