Summary

The Director of Lake Tobesofkee position plans, develops, and directs the operations of Lake Tobesofkee Recreation Area, programs, activities, and facilities.

Examples of duties

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary. 

• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
• Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
• Prepares the annual department budget and monitors expenditures.
• Develops, updates and implements department rules, regulations policies and procedures.
• Conducts presentation to groups, speaks with reporters and prepare new releases and bulletins. 
• Prepares reports for administration and Commissioners of Macon-Bibb County.
• Maintains department equipment inventory, purchases and replaces items as needed and within the Department budget. 
• Develops and administers contracts for special events and concessionaires.
• Develops and monitors capital construction contracts. Reviews and approves the construction of all docks, boathouses and seawalls along the shoreline.
• Assists law enforcement as needed for vehicle and boat patrol, traffic control, and beach and lifeguard supervision.
• Operations of a mechanical dam 24 hours a day.
• Performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications

The Director of Lake Tobesofkee should possess, at a minimum an Associates' degree in Recreation Leadership, Recreation and Parks Administration, Public Administration or related field, and eight (8) years of experience in managing recreation programs or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have completed training and certification as a  Law Enforcement officer by the State of Georgia, and in good standing with GA Peace Officer Safety Training (P.O.S.T).

• Knowledge of personal computers and basic office programs.
• Ability to plan, direct, organize, budget, and administer efficiently the areas, equipment and facilities comprising the parks system.
• Ability to direct and supervise staff.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and with members of the general public.
