Role Overview
What your day looks like:
- Settle estates, process accounting entries, prepare tax documents for estate accounts, and respond to inquiries and estate-related issues within established internal timelines
- Ensure all information and request channels are up to date (for example, requests for OSM, Laserfiche, mailbox)
- Provide proactive assistance and maintain a positive attitude as a team member. Work closely with other operational teams and, when required, directly with advisors on complex matters
- Review current estate settlement processes related to IIROC and MFDA and proactively recommend improvements
- Keep training up to date
- Provide regular updates and immediately report any outstanding items so resources can be allocated as needed
- Review and maintain the following: IIROC checklists, team procedures and manuals, and regulatory changes
- Monitor regulatory developments from the CRA, Revenu Québec, Employment and Social Development Canada, the Civil Code and trust regulation by consulting legislation, press releases and relevant industry bulletins
- Settle estates, ensure spousal transfers on death and full disbursement of plans, and verify the date of death
Requirements
Your experience and skills
- Postsecondary education and/or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience in the financial sector, preferably in estates, registered plans, or operations
- Specialized knowledge of IIROC, CRA and Revenu Québec rules and regulations; knowledge of common law and civil law is an asset
- Proactive problem-solving and strong analytical skills, with the ability to present recommendations for review and implementation
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with a focus on quality assurance
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Exceptional client service orientation
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
- Knowledge of and experience with Dataphile is an asset
- Fluency in English and French (written and spoken) is required to communicate clearly and effectively with partners, clients and colleagues across Canada
- Ability to work standard Eastern Standard Time hours
