Provide strategic oversight and accountability for CHS’s enterprise wide Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, ensuring accuracy, audit readiness, and alignment with corporate sustainability strategy.
Oversee continuous enhancement of the enterprise measurement system (Watershed), setting long term data governance standards and ensuring integration with evolving regulatory and voluntary reporting frameworks.
Lead cross business initiatives to optimize data quality, streamline reporting processes, and strengthen assurance protocols across all CHS facilities.
Develop and implement enterprise training programs for leaders and facility teams to strengthen organizational capability in GHG measurement, reporting, and compliance.
Serve as the primary liaison to internal and external auditors, ensuring timely resolution of issues and driving continuous improvement in audit performance.
Monitor global policy developments (e.g., GHG Protocol updates) and proactively direct the adaptation of CHS’s methodologies to maintain leadership in credible, compliant reporting.
Lead the development and governance of CHS’s long‑term decarbonization roadmap for major operational assets, including refineries and processing facilities.
Partner with senior operations and finance leaders to prioritize and advance capital investments that improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions, ensuring alignment with enterprise strategy and ROI expectations.
Direct the design and delivery of enterprise dashboards and analytics tracking energy intensity and other environmental KPIs to support performance management and disclosure readiness.
Collaborate with Corporate Communications, Government Affairs, and ESG Reporting teams to ensure consistency, credibility, and strategic alignment in CHS’s internal and external communications on decarbonization progress.
Provide expertise and guidance for low‑carbon market programs and certification pathways, guiding CHS’s strategy for sustainable supply chain offerings and compliance with emerging assurance standards.
Work closely with Supply Chain, Commercial, and Trade Execution teams to evaluate, prioritize, and operationalize low‑carbon market opportunities, including certifications, attribute tracking, and traceability systems.
Drive the strategy and process for EUDR compliant US export flows to Europe.
Support the development of governance frameworks and cross‑functional processes that ensure data integrity, program compliance, and commercial viability across CHS’s low‑carbon initiatives.
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
7+ years of experience in sustainability, environmental management, agriculture, energy, project management, or related field
Bachelor's degree highly preferred in finance, accounting, engineering, IT, environmental science, or related fields
Expertise in GHG Protocol, emission factors, materiality, base-year updates, and inventory assurance.
Strong understanding of refinery/process energy systems and their emissions impacts.
Working knowledge of ag supply chains and markets.
Familiarity with SEC climate rules, CSRD/ESRS, EPA GHG reporting, CDP, SASB/ISSB, and TCFD-style expectations.
Experience designing and enforcing data controls; leads multi-site data collection.
Advanced Excel/PowerQuery or BI tools; experience with sustainability platforms.
Experience preparing evidence, sampling, and remediation for limited/reasonable assurance.
Prior experience building cases for energy-efficiency and low-carbon investments.
Familiar with low-carbon certification and chain-of-custody models.
Experience developing practical traceability and data-integrity processes for compliance.
Expertise monitoring evolving climate policy and translating changes into guidance.
