About this role
Role Overview
Providing day to day paraprofessional support on medical and health related litigation files.
Organizing, analyzing and managing large volumes of medical records, hospital charts, expert reports and related documentation.
Assisting in the preparation of communications relating to documents, inventories, undertakings and follow up summaries.
Preparing all relevant documentation to be submitted to the expert(s), in accordance with the instructions received by the lawyer.
Supporting preparation for examinations, motions, mediation and trial, including preparation of hearing and witness binders and trial materials.
Assisting with drafting chronology, quantum assessments based on expert reports filed and relevant case law, and summary of some expert reports.
Managing litigation timelines, deadlines and critical dates under the Code of Civil Procedure.
Liaising professionally with lawyers, clients, medical experts, court clerks, opposing counsel and third parties.
Maintaining organized electronic and physical files (where necessary) in compliance with firm and client standards and confidentiality requirements.
Contributing to the maintenance and updating of litigation precedents and internal best practices.
Supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the litigation paraprofessional team.
Requirements
Diploma in Paralegal Studies / Techniques juridiques or Law Clerk program from a recognized institution.
4-7 years of experience as a litigation paralegal or technician, ideally in medical, professional liability or health related litigation.
Strong knowledge of Quebec civil procedure and litigation practice.
Demonstrated experience reviewing and managing complex medical records.
Bilingual in French and English (spoken and written).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and litigation document management systems; e discovery experience (Relativity) is an asset.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced litigation environment.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative, service oriented approach.
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a regional team.
