Set Spotnana’s overall legal strategy and manage day-to-day responsibilities of the company’s legal function (including management of and collaboration with our outside counsel)
Negotiate, or supervise the negotiation of, technology-related commercial agreements (license agreements, reseller/channel partner agreements, NDAs, vendor contracts, data processing agreements, service level agreements etc.)
Build out and manage in-house legal team, which will own all legal documents and operations across all functions
Assist in defining and implementing best practices around workflow and processes for the legal function, including through creation and maintenance of playbooks, contract templates, service guides and/or self-help or other workflows
Offer guidance and serve as the escalation point on a wide variety of legal matters, including but not limited to contract law, state/federal compliance issues, global data/privacy regulations, intellectual property, and other HR, employment, or corporate matters
Identify legal/compliance risks for the company, and develop strategies to mitigate same, including but not limited to designing and implementing company policies and procedures and staff training
Keep current on relevant industry standards, law, and regulations
Develop and Interface with finance regarding legal spend budgets
Act as a cross-functional leader who works closely with teams across sales, marketing, customer support, product, security, IT, and finance to ensure contractual terms align with company objectives and priorities
Provide legal and strategic support to cross-functional projects
Advise regarding international employment laws and the launching of international entities for Spotnana
Requirements
10+ years legal experience
5+ commercial counsel experience, with at least 2+ years as part of an in-house legal team
Substantial experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements involving technology, including licensing agreements (data licensing, SaaS agreements, etc.)
Experience in legal management role (actively managing attorneys and contract specialists)
Member in good standing of a state bar (preferably in California or New York)
Extraordinary interpersonal and communication skills and ability to communicate information effectively internally and externally, including to non-legal audiences, and to drive cross-functional alignment
Highly responsive and service-oriented attitude; ability to influence and provide timely and effective legal and business advice, support and training at all organizational level
Demonstrated ability to handle a broad range of responsibilities and priorities in a fast-paced environment
Ability to balance legal risk mitigation against key business objectives and risks
Growth mindset with a strong desire to up-skill, learn about new products, technologies and processes, and remain agile and adaptable
Prior experience scaling legal operations at a private company in United States is a plus
