About this role
Role Overview
Drive Specialty Solutions profitability and growth and contribute to the strategic plan.
Lead a team of managers responsible for various lines of business.
Provide coaching, performance feedback and facilitate continuous development and succession planning.
Determine team objectives, assign responsibilities and provide coaching with complex and problem files requiring authorization.
Determine and establish key measures to monitor productivity and technical quality, identify opportunities for improvement, and enhance essential business processes.
Develop and recommend policy direction and underwriting guidelines to drive improved or increased results.
Manage key relationships between corporate and divisional Specialty Solutions teams.
Be accountable for the delivery of key operational initiatives and lead projects, such as technology, corporate liaison, centre of excellence, product development and operational implementation.
Act as the team's underwriting authority on issues related to risk pricing, selection, and retention governed by the parameters of the corporate underwriting philosophy.
Conduct audits to verify the soundness of underwriting practices and risk selection, and to identify areas for potential improvement.
Determine required staffing numbers and staffing levels based on established regional management and corporate guidelines.
Liaise with the regional management team, underwriting managers, corporate underwriting, and claims management on technical and administrative issues.
Provide monthly updates and reports to the Vice President on all operational items.
Requirements
Minimum 10 years of relevant management experience
Strong knowledge of Specialty Solutions lines
Experience in Energy and EBI and working on complex risks
Effective communication skills to develop and foster business relationships, both internally and externally
Strategic thinking with the ability to focus on attention to detail
Leadership ability to influence and motivate people and drive change
Proven track record setting clear objectives and monitoring the progress of multiple projects against deadlines
Ability to address complex problems and take calculated risks to make decisions in time-sensitive situations
Ability to monitor competitive practices, business trends, and other developments impacting business results and recommend changes in regional practices
Proven ability to develop, mentor, and train staff
Strong follow-up and execution on work and projects
Willing to travel on occasion
No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
