Plans and directs the coordination, review, and approval of project studies within the Illinois state system
Ensures compliance with federal oversight relating to design approval
Resolves special technical and managerial problems related to complicated and high-priority projects
Ensures public involvement in project study development stages
Obtains approval of all design exceptions for projects
Trains, motivates, and evaluates staff to ensure competency in assignments
Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules and promotes fair treatment of all employees
Requirements
Current registration as a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois
Five years of experience in civil engineering
Eight years of experience in civil engineering preferred, with at least five years in highway engineering, two years developing significant highway projects
Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering
Ability to plan, organize, execute, and evaluate administrative program requirements
Requires a valid driver’s license
Requires successful completion of a background screening
Frequent statewide travel and occasional out-of-state travel required.
