Oversees and manages complex secondary level and pre-bill coding audit activity for the overall improvement of quality and completeness of coding outcomes and compliance.
Manages and coordinates Coding audit operations at the health system. Demonstrates ability to plan, initiate and coordinate departmental operations to ensure timely throughput of claims
Management of daily secondary level review activity, monitoring productivity, staffing and assignments
Works with senior management team, consultants and executives on Coding audit projects and in represents coding audit in meetings. Reports Coding audit data outcomes to hospital departments and committees
Interviews, selects, trains staff in a manner that ensures efficient Coding audit operations and complies with the relevant regulations governing the employment process.
Provides ongoing performance feedback to employees, and takes corrective action when necessary. Portions of the coding audit performance evaluations may be delegated to appropriate coding audit coordinator when applicable
When indicated, documents, plans and initiates team member corrective action and counseling in fair and consistent manner, following facility policies
Coordinates Coding audit staff orientation and training, auditor education , staff development, departmental activities and in-service opportunities
Plans and conducts regular staff meetings
Supports Coding/CDI Physician Advisors at the facility level, including Coding education efforts for the medical staff. Participation and management of special Coding projects, as assigned
Maintains appropriate controls to ensure compliance with Federal/State regulations and organizational policies to include HIPAA, Privacy, Safe Environment
Promotes the quality and efficiency of his/her own performance by remaining current with the latest trends in field of expertise through participation in job-related seminars and workshops, attendance at professional conferences, and affiliations with national and state professional organizations
Produces requested or routine reports and provides appropriate feedback to physicians, administration, managers, etc., in a timely manner. Maintains an organized work environment
Requirements
5 years acute inpatient coding with minimum of 2 years of leadership experience.
Associates degree in HIM
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) and RHIT or RHIA
