Codes and abstracts inpatient and outpatient conditions, diseases, and procedures according to coding guidelines.
Assigns appropriate DRG/APC classifications.
Collaborates with clinicians and CDI staff to obtain necessary documentation.
Assists with internal coding audit and training activities.

Formalized education in coding classifications, UHDDS reporting, medical terminology, anatomy, chemistry, pharmacology, physiology, and disease process.
Preferred Associates Degree in Health Information Management.
Minimum CCS certification.
Preferred CCS and RHIT or RHIA certifications.
Minimum of 5 years of related work experience; 7 years preferred.
Knowledge and skills to support other coding staff, communicate effectively, work with minimum supervision, and apply critical thinking skills.
