Advise leadership and other internal clients on a variety of legal topics including privacy, employment, intellectual property, technology, marketing, commercial and corporate law
Negotiate, draft and interpret commercial agreements with Moneris clients, partners and vendors
Manage actual or threatened litigation and guide dispute resolution
Identify, analyze, and respond to legislative and regulatory developments affecting Moneris
Create and maintain precedent agreements and participate in/lead knowledge management initiatives to improve overall efficiency of the Legal team and evolve best in class legal services to clients
Handle issues and escalations related to customers and partners
Manage external counsel to ensure effective performance and control costs
Requirements
LL.B. or J.D. and active membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario or Quebec
3+ years of experience practicing in corporate law, preferably with a blend of full-service law firm and in-house experience (experience in the payments industry or FinTech considered an asset)
Excellent drafting, negotiation and analytical skills
Proven ability to constructively manage difficult conversations and effectively address and resolve issues
Strong work ethic and ability to effectively prioritize and handle a broad array of matters
Fluency in French is considered a plus but is not mandatory.
