To competently interpret the patients history and baseline level of function and then to complete an assessment appropriate to the patients areas of deficits.
Establishes and carries out a plan of care to include patient treatment and reassessment, patient/family instruction, discharge planning, documentation in the medical record and communication with physicians and other medical staff.

90% Direct Patient Care
Evaluates and treats patients after physician referral.
Develops and implements plan of care based on evaluation findings and appropriate treatment techniques.
Implements plan of care based on appropriate occupational performance frame of reference(s): bio-mechanical, sensorimotor, and/or rehabilitative.
Attends multidisciplinary patient care meetings.
Plans and coordinates discharge plan with multidisciplinary team.
Educates patient and caregiver/family.
Recommends Medical Equipment required for discharge.
Provides information to physicians, nurses, case managers, social workers, and other team members.
5% Documents evaluation, plan of care, progress toward goals, discharge plan/continuity of care for multidisciplinary team, and other involved medical and insurance parties.
5% Indirect Department Functions: Supervises patient assignments and duties of Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA) and rehab technicians. Is involved in department quality improvement through utilization review and quality assurance program.
Takes active role in orienting new staff members. Serves as clinical instructor for OT and COTA students. Educates other disciplines and medical/hospital personnel on the topic of OT purpose, goals and treatment policies and procedures.
Represents department at problem-solving and committee meetings. Assumes other duties delegated by management.
