About this role
Role Overview
Conduct detailed investigations of workers' compensation claims submitted to Risk Management on state employees
Apply the appropriate laws and make a determination of compensability
Evaluate medical reports, authorize medical treatment, and determine if rehabilitation is needed
Authorize compensation payments and settlements and calculate proper monetary reserves on claims
Handle workers' compensation claims assigned to defense counsel and attend mediations and hearings when necessary
Assist and advise Claims Coordinators of various state agencies with questions about workers' compensation claims
Monitor the activities of Risk Management's prior service companies and complete DWC forms for Electronic Data Interchange Reporting
Perform other related work as required
Requirements
At least six (6) months’ experience working in a position requiring working knowledge of Chapter 440, Florida Statutes or equivalent statute
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university preferred
Currently, or previously had Florida Adjuster License
At least one (1) year of experience adjusting workers’ compensation claims within the last three years
At least one (1) year working in workers’ compensation insurance claims business
Working experience with any risk management information systems and/or any software programs designed to assist adjusting workers’ compensation claims
Experience adjusting permanent total disability claims
